Gambero Rosso : "We knew that Plozner was going through a complete change of direction, and that it had made considerable investments over recent years in both the vineyards and cellar. But their latest move took us by surprise, a line of wines bearing the intriguing title, “Feet on the ground, head in the clouds” , ("Our feet planted on the earth, our gaze towards the future"). The wines are from premium varieties, in recently-planted vineyards, and utilise innovative winemaking practices. Distinctive bottles were custom-designed for the line as well, all closed with glass stoppers and bearing unique label art. In particular, noted English artist Jonathan Monk was commissioned to execute a different label for every vintage produced of the Sauvignon Quattroperuno Uno. Such new initiatives usually have a shaky beginning, but this project started out almost immediately on the right foot, with terrific quality wines: Sauvignon Quattroperuno Uno, in fact, jumped into the national taste-off as finalist for Three Glasses. From three different clones of sauvignon blanc plus a bit of viognier, it stands out for its crisp elegance and magisterial balance between its herbaceous and fruity components. The Pinot Grigio Malpelo was vinified with skin contact, thus this wine’s deep hue. But it exhibits great finesse, as well as nicely-calibrated duet between minerally impressions and subtle apple and Williams pear. Moscabianca, produced from a venerable estate-grown clone of tocai, is redolent of wisteria, orange blossom, and Delicious apple. Refosco Bastiano benefited from a vinification that preserved a lively acidity. The remaining wines are all sound, with, as usual, the classic Sauvignon in the lead, all crisp fresh green pepper and tomato leaf." GR, 2007.
